The flow of a story. I see a lot of writers get hung up on the engagement mechanisms, even asking readers to stay for at least thirty seconds. The best way to get readers to stay for thirty seconds or longer is to write a story that flows well. Read it aloud, ideally to someone else, and see how it sounds.
