Well-said. We must tell our own stories. As a Wikipedia editor, I’ve been frustrated by the lack of (what Wikipedia considers to be) reliable sources accurately covering transgender — especially non-binary — issues and terminology. And when trans people who are understandably tired of being unpaid educators tell cis people to “just Google it,” I’m frustrated that the first impressions served up are probably not the most accurate representations of what it means to be trans.
Cis writers and editors who deadname and misgender us, and cite “house rules” as an excuse for it, have no business writing about us. At all.
