Speaking as a queer black trans male here: It’s not up to white people to decide what is or isn’t “real” racism. But calling out words or actions as racist doesn’t mean that the person saying or doing them is a “bad” person. It does mean that they need to check their privileges and realize why a black person, given the history of anti-black racism in the USA, might not appreciate being fetishized, even if some others might consider that a compliment.
