Reading about your experience with rentals makes me realize how lucky I've been to have had mostly decent landlords. I don't like our current one, who I'm sure can't wait to find a reason to kick us out since we're the longest-standing tenants in this building under rent control, and have been here over 20 years. The previous owners were much better and prompter at taking care of things. But it could still be a lot, lot worse.

I will likely never own a home, as long as we live in the San Francisco Bay Area. At age 54 I assumed I'd be a homeowner by now, but life didn't turn out that way. Still, I have a roof over my head, which is better than a lot of folks like me (queer, Black, trans) in this city. I'm grateful for that.
