Part of why I’ve always enjoyed playing The Sims is that they’ve supported same-sex relationships since the beginning of the franchise (2000), and full same-sex marriage since Sims 3 (2009). You still can’t play explicitly trans or non-binary characters, and hair and clothing styles for male Sims are too limited, but at least you aren’t restricted in romance.
During the brief time The Sims Online was available, however, I encountered blatant homophobia. I haven’t played any other MMORPGs so I don’t know if the situation has improved in other games, but I generally prefer to play alone anyway.
