My spouse works for the San Francisco Opera, so I've seen a number of productions even though I'm not a big fan of that art form. One I saw recently, Omar, was written by and features primarily Black singers: https://www.sfopera.com/operas/omar/ I thought it was excellent. (It also won this year's Pulitzer Prize for Music.)
The SF Opera has supertitles projected above the stage, which is probably easier to follow than looking down at a small screen. They also live stream some performances, which helps with accessibility.
I've read and enjoyed Parable of the Sower, and it sounds like I would enjoy the opera too. Jazz is my favorite genre, and I also love Broadway-style musicals.
