I’ve voted for Green or independent candidates in every U.S. presidential election and most local elections (where Green or independent candidates I like are running) since 1996. As a progressive who is a member of multiple marginalized groups (queer, black, trans), I’m sick and tired of being told by Democrats — people who profess to be my allies — that my vote either doesn’t count, is actively helping Republicans, or is actively harming people like myself.

Like you, I have not argued that the Democratic and Republican parties are the same, but that both are ruled by corporate money. I feel that nothing short of an actual revolution will make the U.S. a place where all people can truly pursue and hope to achieve “life, liberty, and happiness”. But until then, I will continue to vote for Green and other third party and independent candidates who share my values, without apology.
