A note to new followers

This “meta” story is intentionally not paywalled.

I used to be excited whenever someone followed me or commented on my stories here. But lately, it appears that more and more of these accounts are churning out low-quality, possibly AI-generated stories. I doubt these followers are genuinely interested in what I have to say.

I have no interest in “follow for follow” or whatever moneymaking scheme is going on. Wanting to make money from writing is fine; I do too. But more importantly, I’m here to share original thoughts and ideas, not “content”.

(Update, March 2024: I’m hopeful that the efforts announced this week to counter AI, spam and fraud will reduce the numbers of these kinds of followers and commenters.)
