I'm Gen X (age 52) but I didn't watch several of these films until I was an adult (and some not at all). I think the only one I saw when it first came out was ET. I wasn't scared by it, I just didn't like it that much (blasphemy, I know!).

Re Spielberg's other films, I thought Gremlins was the one that finally convinced the MPAA to create a PG-13 rating (after that film came out). I didn't realize Spielberg himself was the one who lobbied for the new rating, but it makes sense if he wanted to avoid getting Rs so more kids could watch.

Mommie Dearest is one of the films on this list I haven't seen. Holy SHIT is that wire hanger scene terrifying. I agree with the commenters on the YouTube video that there's nothing at all funny about it. Some abusers are really like that, tragically.

Watership Down is one of my favorite books of all time. I thought the cartoon - which again, I saw as an adult, not a child - was very true to the book. From the trailer I watched, the CGI remake indeed looks horrific.
