I had great hope for implants (Testopel in my case) for all the reasons you mention, but suffered such prolonged, severe pain after the first procedure that I was not willing to get them again. I switched to gel (Androgel), but then began menstruating again after nearly four period-free years, which was very distressing. I went back to injections (now done at the doctor’s office) and am not happy about it; we’re still trying to find the right dosage to prevent menstruation while keeping my hormones at a reasonable level. Very grateful I have insurance coverage (through my partner’s employer), but it has not been a fun ride.
