I decided the day I started testosterone therapy, four and a half years ago, would be the day I stopped using women’s restrooms for good, even though I wasn’t consistently read as male at that time. Though I’m agender, I’ve transitioned to male for legal and medical purposes, and I avoid being in spaces designated specifically for women.

I had a huge amount of anxiety for the first year I used men’s restrooms, sometimes standing outside for several minutes until I was sure no one would see me going in or out. Now that I’ve grown a beard I’m less nervous about being mistaken for a woman in the men’s room, but it took years of testosterone therapy for that to happen.

I strongly prefer gender-neutral restrooms, which are helpful to everyone, trans, cis, and non-binary.
