Having transitioned from wearing women’s to men’s clothes - though I believe clothing shouldn’t be gendered in the first place - I can attest to the serious lack of pockets in women’s wear. There’s a good blog post on the gendered nature of encumbrance which has more insights on why women are quite literally expected to shoulder the burden.

As an aside - I’m also a big fan of Bechdel; I’ve read Fun Home and most of the Dykes To Watch Out For collections. I met her in person in San Francisco many years back, and she drew a little picture of Mo in my copy of The Indelible Alison Bechdel.
