Fuck respectability politics. Seriously, it has no place in the liberation of any of the oppressed groups I am a part of: Queer people, trans people, black people, or anyone else.

On the heels of the Supreme Court decision validating same-sex marriage, I wrote an indirect response to another Andrew Sullivan piece that questioned “What do gay men have in common when they don’t have oppression?” As if getting married is the solution to heterosexism. Assimilation — when it is even possible — is far too high a price to pay for liberation.
