For myself, I prefer to use the term “reading” rather than passing. Binary trans men and women are men and women as far as I’m concerned, so they don’t need to “pass”, but most do need to be “read” as their correct genders for safety, survival, and well-being. I am agender, but when among strangers, I seek to be read as a cisgender man. In a society that does not recognize non-binary genders, I am forced to make a binary choice, for being agender is not something that I can or wish to express physically.
