As a queer trans Wikipedia editor, the amount of ongoing vandalism and hate speech on LGBT pages really bothers me. But I don’t feel that I can ignore it, and even if I wanted to, I don’t have the privilege of ignoring oppression that affects me directly. So I monitor pages as my time and mental health allow.
The idea that a congressperson could claim that posting blatantly cissexist language on Wikipedia is justified as “official business” speaks volumes about the state of our government. We trans people absolutely do need more visibility and power at all levels of government and society.
