As a non-binary person myself, I fully support gender-expansive parenting. Well-meaning folks who ask “boy or girl?” don’t realize that what they’re essentially asking is “what’s between your child’s legs?” Because most pre-pubescent children show no other physical signs of their (presumed) sex, and most people (at least in the U.S.) still conflate sex with gender.
