From where did you learn this (alleged) information?
I used to write regularly on Medium. Slowly, because good prose, like good thinking, takes some time. I'd publish an essay every few weeks. Most were curated (or whatever the promotion process was called in 2020), and every second or third time I'd generate enough interest to bring me a few hundred dollars, sometimes…

Generative AI tools have increased the amount of written material, but not the amount of quality writing, which is, arguably, the only writing worth reading. I personally refuse to use AI assistance for writing or other creative work. https://funcrunch.medium.com/is-ai-turning-everyone-into-a-writer-1e35410dbf2d

Back when I was on Tumblr near the beginning of my (non-binary) transition, I recall arguing that constantly referring to non-binary people as either AMAB or AFAB was reinstating the binary. I didn't get much support for my argument. *shrug*

All the more reason I prefer cheap indie games like Stardew Valley and Terraria that can be played on a potato. :-)

Thanks for sharing your story; very sorry you've had these experiences. I too have left the animal rights movement: https://funcrunch.medium.com/my-adventures-in-animal-rights-activism-9715e26db222

The image focal point setting and highlight hiding are great improvements. Regarding publications, I found out today that an editor can add a user to their publication without first seeking their approval, which causes said user to show up as a writer on that publication's "About" page, even though they've never…

Good insights. I am not a Friend of Medium and thus have no access to TK, but wouldn't be interested in using it if I did. You know my opinions about using generative AI for writing, as you commented on my article about that (https://funcrunch.medium.com/is-ai-turning-everyone-into-a-writer-1e35410dbf2d).

I logged off Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter years ago; good riddance. Still active on Mastodon (no algorithm or corporate ownership, yay) and LinkedIn, but trying to spend less time there. Also starting to read books on paper again, a hobby I had decades ago. Good to take my eyes off of the screen more often.

One of my favorite games, Stardew Valley, has two playable arcade games at the local saloon. I tried both briefly but never got into either of them, which means I'm missing the final two achievements to "100%" this game on Steam. (One of said achievements is very difficult; as of today, only 1.3% of Steam players have…

Good. I'm not an editor, but I encourage Medium to further discourage this practice, perhaps even to the point of refusing to boost stories with such links (if you aren't doing so already).

Agreed. I'm a decent writer, but I don't have the energy or desire to constantly market myself. It's really not in my skill set. And generative AI is indeed drowning out actual human authors. https://funcrunch.medium.com/is-ai-turning-everyone-into-a-writer-1e35410dbf2d

To my fellow queer and trans people: Please try to ignore any ugly, bigoted comments on this post and other posts celebrating Pride. You are valid and valuable. No government or individual can take that away from you.

My spouse is a long-time member of IATSE, though he's a sound engineer, not camera operator. I'm a big union supporter. Workers need - and deserve - strong protections.

This is one of the reasons Stardew Valley is so popular. Thanks to the solid writing (all by a single developer)*, its pixelated characters have way more depth to them than those in The Sims,** a way more expensive franchise. * ConcernedApe now has the help of one or two other developers, but the original story…
