A Chicken and Egg Problem
For World Vegan Day, thoughts on effective animal advocacy
Today, November 1, is World Vegan Day, an annual occasion since 1994 to celebrate and promote veganism. As a longtime vegan myself, I have written frequently about why I avoid the consumption and other use of animal products as part of my commitment to non-violence, and why I feel more people can and should do the same.
While my vegan advocacy is now mostly limited to blogging, there was a time when I was more active in the movement against animal exploitation. One of the groups I was active with was Direct Action Everywhere (DxE). For reasons I explained in detail in an earlier post, I left this group in 2015, as did many other activists who were concerned about their cult-like tactics and treatment of marginalized people in the organization.
